This week Ash Class have been learning lots about science. We have been finding out about floating and sinking, mixing colours with paint and with light and watching volcanoes explode! We have also been looking after our chicks and watching them grow. We have been learning what we have to do to look after the chicks, how to keep them safe and what they like to eat.
On Monday we could hold the chicks for the first time. We were very gentle with them. The chicks have really soft fluff, called down, and their feathers are growing already.
On Wednesday we learnt about mixing paint colours. We started with the primary colours: red, blue and yellow. Then we mixed them to make secondary colours: purple, green and orange.
After we mixed the paint colours we looked at pictures by a Russian artist called Kandinsky. He painted pictures of small, medium and large circles inside squares. We made our own versions of the pictures by choosing colours and painting circles in different sizes. The pictures looked brilliant!

Welcome back after half term! We hope you had a relaxing time off!
Our new topic this term is ‘Celebrations!’ We plan to learn about various festivals and events that people celebrate in their lives. 22nd September 2014
We have had a fantastic beginning to the year! The children have settled in and are enjoying all of the new resources.
We have also started our phonics scheme, Read Write Inc. Read Write Inc will aid us in our reading and writing. We have been learning a letter a day and have so far learnt m,a,s,d, and t. The youtube video below gives an idea of how we say the sounds of the letters rather than the names to help us build words and sound them out. You will notice how pure the sounds are.
Every child now has a reading book in their book bags for parents to read with them at home. If you could sign the reading record book to let us know when you would like us to change the books that would be great. Many of the books sent home are without words and we ask that the children retell the story whilst looking at the pictures. If the book your child has received has words, then we ask if you could help your child identify the letter sounds and start to blend the letters together. The video below shows how to use assisted blending to sound out words. We use Fred talk at school, feel free to use it at home if you feel it would help.
We have been taking part in a celebration assembly every Monday. 2 children every week collect a certificate from Mrs Mutch for their fantastic hard work from the previous week. So far Ava, Zaara, Arjan and Carol have received the certificates, Well done!
Our topic this term is ‘All about me’ so we have asked for parents to bring in a photograph of their family for the children to talk about and share stories. If you have a picture on your phone or computer, you can always email it over and we can print it out. Email – firstname.lastname@example.org
Here are some recent letters sent home to parents.
